The JESUS Film
The JESUS Film is an evangelistic tool that has been used to show the salvation story of Jesus to over a billion people since 1979. More than 200 million people have indicated decisions to accept Christ as their personal Savior and Lord. It’s been translated into hundreds of languages; the dialogue has been matched to the actors’ lip movements as closely as possible in each language, allowing viewers to hear the words from Scripture instead of reading subtitles. Some friends in the JESUS Film’s New Media department recently asked if I’d help them shoot a recreation of a short scene from the original film as a test for some future ideas. First. the actors recorded their dialogue to match the timing and phrasing of the original film. Then, on the set, they synchronized their dialogue to their own recorded voices being played back while acting. It had to be done this way so as to preserve the timing of all those translations that have already been created. If the leadership of JESUS Film thinks this is effective, there could be more updates shot of this incredible resource.

Family Update
October seemed to fly by. Our whole family took part in a campagin our church had for packing seeds to provide gardens for a quarter million families in India, Africa and Haiti. It was fun to explain to the kids with each scoop another family would be fed! The kids enjoyed taking part in their school’s character parade—Elijah was Spider-man, and Mikayla was Toothless the Night Fury (from the movie “How to Train Your Dragon”). Heather got busy making the Toothless costume, and also managed to make a rather large stuffed shark for Elijah out of material we had at home. We heard great reports from the kids’ teachers at conferences, which was very encouraging.

Happy Thanksgiving!
