With temperatures still reaching the high 80s and 90s and no kids in school, it’s still feeling like summer here for us. August
went by quickly as we drove to Michigan for Heather’s sister’s wedding. Mikayla did a great job as flower girl and both kids enjoyed staying up late and celebrating. We also had the chance to see a few family and friends before traveling to Grand Island, NY, to see David’s side of the family. We finally met our new nephew, who is already five months old. We also surprised David’s mom with a party for her 80th birthday. It was nice to be “up north” without the snow and cold. We continue
to settle into our new place; the last big project is just finishing up as we replaced the dead grass and weeds with new sod on a good portion of our lawn.
For the last few months our team has been creating the promotional materials for Campus Crusade’s summer missions projects of 2009. One part is a fun video that helps fuel interest for students to take part in a summer that will be like living in a spiritual greenhouse as they grow in their faith and share Christ with those around them. We have started to hear stories and statistics of what God did this summer through this year’s short-term mission projects.
There were 190 different projects that covered 51 countries and 26 states of the U.S. Twenty-eight hundred students shared the gospel with almost 70,000 people and saw about 2,500 people pray to receive Christ. Praise God for the people he brought to himself, and for the students’ willingness and availability to be used this summer!
One student we heard about is an immigrant from Somalia we’ll call Oscar. His family was Muslim and he studied Arabic and the Koran personally and even made a pilgrimage to Mecca. Oscar was won to Christ in high school by a group of fellow runners, being struck by the love they had for him and others. He decided to go on a summer project this past summer. When his parents found out about his faith they told him he was no longer part of their family. It was a challenging summer for this young man, but the students on project gave him much support and told him they consider him part of their family. This is just the beginning for Oscar; thankfully
he had a group of friends who were there to support him on this journey.
You played an important part with your prayers and partnership in the gospel being proclaimed throughout the world. Thank you!
