We are now in our third week of school here in Orlando and both kids are doing great. Mikayla’s teacher has given us positive feedback and we’re excited that two of her classmates are our neighbors. As
we walk Mikayla to school every morning
and pick her up, we’re seeing some of our neighbors more and getting to know them better which has been great! Elijah is also making friends while at preschool three days a week. The other day we noticed that he had written his own name on his paper—he’d never practiced letters on his own be- fore school started! We’ve also been relieved that he hasn’t had any accidents while there, but uses the bathroom by himself (yeah for positive peer pressure). Heather has been enjoying being able to run errands without the kids and have some quieter times back in her life. The year is ramping up for David’s team, and six new people have joined the team; five are here for the year, and one is a new “permanent” teammate.
College students are back on campuses across the country and so are our staff. Here’s a report we heard from staff at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville:
Have you ever called someone that you didn’t know...to set up an appointment to share the gospel with them? Sounds pretty scary, right? Last week, hundreds of students stopped by a table in the Student Union and filled out a short, four-question spiritual interest survey. Dozens of them checked a box that read,“I’d like to sit down with someone to talk about how to have a relationship with God.” Because of this, we and our student leaders have been getting in touch with these students over the past week! Students are initiating relationships with people they’ve never met, making
friends, and trusting God to create opportunities for them to share the gospel with other students!
•150 students—most of them people we’d never met before—at the first Source (our large-group weekly meeting).
•Erik, an SIUE sophomore who came on a summer project with us this summer, standing up in front of those 150 students sharing the story of how he came to Christ just seven months ago.
