What’s hip with college students today? (Would they even use the word “hip?”) As we grow older that question gets harder for us to answer. We’re thankful for the 13 college students that worked on our team this summer. They were tasked with creating an evangelistic website, and the result is www.tangentjunkie.com. It has a lot of what seem to be random articles (tangents), but woven in are life stories of college students and how relevant and life-changing a relationship with Jesus is. Word of mouth is powerful, and we pray that this website will catch on with college students across the country.
We’ve been home a few weeks now and have been to seven different doctor appointments in that time! (A few were routine dental appointments, and a nine-month check-up for Mikayla.) Heather went because some blood work indicated something was off with her thyroid. After some additional testing, it was confirmed she has Hashimoto’s disease, which is an underactive thyroid and the presence of antibodies that fight against the thyroid. You can read more about it at http://familydoctor.org/548.xml. She has started taking a synthetic hormone to make up for what her body is not producing naturally. She’ll return to the doctor at the end of the month to get retested to see if the dosage is adequate. I went in for a routine physical (I hadn’t been in quite a while) and the doctor had me take a heart stress test, which came out fine—it appears that I’m pretty healthy! Mikayla’s doctor heard a heart murmur and after a visit with a pediatric cardiologist, we’re relieved to learn it’s nothing to be concerned about.
If we have your email address you probably heard about our car. It was in the shop in Colorado, and here in Orlando after we got back. It’s still not running well. We’d like to be able to purchase a newer vehicle that will be more reliable, but we still need to see $1,800 in monthly support come in first. It would be good to see that support start to be accounted for before we spend much of our savings. Your prayers for this would be appreciated.
On a lighter note, our nine-month-old now has her own blog! (That’s short for “web log”—it’s basically an online journal.) If you can’t get enough of our little cutie you can check her out at www.mikaylajune.blogspot.com. We record new milestones and different experiences from Mikayla’s point of view. (It’s been a source of laughter for a few family and friends.) We love the fact that it’s free and easy; anyone can sign up and have their own blog. (If you’d like to try it, you can just go to Mikayla’s blog and then click on the Blogger icon in the top left corner.)
