February 3, 2006 Over Christmas, we spent time with family in Grand Island, NY, near Buffalo. Aside from the cold weather and runny noses, we enjoyed our time immensely. It’s such a blessing to go to a big family gathering and be surrounded by not just family but believers in Jesus. David’s Christian heritage can be traced back 100 years to Tékes, Hungary. While in Grand Island I found a scrapbook of one of David’s aunts. It was quite lengthy, so I asked if I could take it back to the house to read. It tells the story of his Tante Lisbeth (Aunt Elisabeth), who grew up in a small town in Hungary (the same town where his mom’s family lived). It has many adventures, including escaping from having to work at a Russian work camp in WWII, being forced to give up their house to nationals and move to East Germany, then escaping to West Germany and finally coming to Buffalo, New York. Several things stood out to me when I read the story. The first was how alive and real Tante Lisbeth’s faith in God was and is. (How it carried her through so many troubling times.) Second, I was reminded of the impact that one person’s faith can have. Her grandmother was introduced to Christ over 100 years ago by a Mr. Lehmann. Several people in her village became Christians as a result, and that influence has spread dramatically in the Buffalo area. There are hundreds of believers today as a result of the influence of Mr. Lehmann. It’s a new year, and I sit wondering what stories are being written today? Who is that college student who found Christ through one of Crusade’s many evangelistic websites? Who is the student who shared with a friend down the hall and saw him accept Christ into his life? For many students they are the first in their family to accept Christ. If we could fast-forward 100 years from today, what spiritual lineage would we find in January 2106? How many lives will have been changed? Will someone’s great-great grandchild be preparing to go onto the mission field? We’re thankful for the privilege of sharing Christ through the work we do with Campus Crusade. Please pray for the countless numbers of students who are seeking truth right now. Mikayla Update
