Baby Update
Heather’s belly is growing and we had our first ultrasound this last week. The baby is progressing well and we will have a little girl in late November. Please pray that the baby continues to grow and be healthy, and for us as we prepare for this major change to our family.
Summer Project
After five weeks at North Myrtle Beach we are back in hot, humid Orlando and emptying the sand out of our shoes. It was a challenging summer, trying to adjust to a different schedule where going out on the beach with our disciples to initiate spiritual conversation and having evening activities like a small- group Bible study and a men’s/women’s night were the norm. Although it was hard, it was a privilege to mentor a few students during our time there. We saw people who we shared with decide to give their lives to Christ, and the boldness and excitement to share the gospel grew among the students. Weekly hot dog outreaches were started where the students would fire up the grill and make hot dogs to give away to the high school students who had come down for a week of partying. It’s funny the things that God will use.
We wanted to give you a glimpse of one of the students who came to project. Meet Darren, who in high school was repeatedly prayed for and exposed to the gospel by co-workers. Darren didn’t believe in God and would tell them they were wasting their time. They continued to love and pray for him. During his first week at college he saw a group giving away something in bags—and he took one as he saw it had a bag of chips inside. (What he took was a Freshman Survival Kit, a project that our team updates each year.) The bag also contained a Bible, music CD, video and a book called “The Case for Christ.” Lee Strobel, who was an atheist who set out to disprove Christianity, is the author. In his research he became convinced that Christianity was true and became a Christian. Darren had heard about Jesus many times, and finally, after reading this book, he realized that he now also believed it to be true.
His love for God and desire for others to know the truth was evident this summer. As we prepared to give the project over to the students we had to select a team of peers who would run the project and give it spiritual direction—Darren is on that team. Each student has a story that shows where he or she was and how God drew him or her to himself. They will continue to share with those they meet in NMB and then back on their respective campuses.
Thanks for your prayers and support that made it possible for us to directly connect with students again. It’s a great reminder of how our work in the office (like on the Freshman Survival Kits) is used by God to reach thousands every year!
