Kids eat the strangest things!
On July 1st we left the sunny (and hot, and humid) state of Florida and headed for Grand Island, New York. Our van will see plenty of highways this summer as we spend time in New York and Michigan. I think the kids are a bit surprised that it’s warm at their grandparent’s house (and it’s nice to visit Niagara Falls—a mere 10 minutes from David’s parents—when it’s not freezing out)! We’ve been using silly bands (fun-shaped rubber band bracelets; hot items for kids right now) to reward Mikayla when she reads and Elijah when he uses the bathroom all by himself. We are seeing progress on both fronts. We love being able to see family and friends while we are here but you can pray for us all as we are away from home and our “normal life.” Our visit north is prompted by our need to work on raising more support. We’d love your prayers that God would make our time fruitful, and we’d stay encouraged!
I mentioned last month that I worked on videos that promoted summer projects (see: gosummerproject.com/videodownloads). Here’s a story from Patrick & Tricia Schleper, who are staffing a summer project in Australia:
One cool story from a week or so ago, was of a Chinese student, met by some of our students, who was asked about his beliefs/values. His comment was, “I’ll believe in something when I find something to believe in.”
Our students went on to explain to him the gospel message and he prayed to receive Christ’s love and forgiveness! He was leaving for China a few days later, but our student Mike was able to meet with him for one lesson of how to start walking with Christ. The cool thing he found out was that the Chinese guy’s grandfather is a Christian!!!! So, he’ll have the chance to get discipled maybe by his granddad, and get a Bible in Chinese!
