Pray for the students we’ll be discipling– that God would use us in their lives.

Interim Leader
Thank you for praying last month when we asked you to pray for a new team leader. Paul Payne helped develop the idea of having a team that was all about leveraging technology to win students to Christ, build them in our faith, and send them out to win others. Paul has stepped in as our team leader through May (and maybe longer) to help us as the National Leadership pursues a more permanent solution. Paul’s great vision for this team has helped ramp up things as we’ve been busy with some initial assignments that will help our team work better.

Slinky
We recently completed a brochure that outlines the history of the Freshman Survival Kit. The kit contains a Bible, video, book and toy and is handed to thousands of freshmen each year. Counting this school year, we have seen 1,000,000 kits distributed since 1996! The brochure was given to leaders of student movements as a reminder of how God has used the kits. Here’s an example:

In the fall of 1998, a student named Kristin spotted a number of strange little bags on a big blue tarp on the quad at the University of Illinois. Kristin couldn’t make out what was going on, but she could see that students walking by were being handed these bags. While it’s not unusual to see such a thing on campus, what did grab Kristin’s attention was the “slinky” that students were pulling from their bags. She determined that she had to have one too. The banner over the tarp said something about freshmen, but though she wasn’t one, she managed to get a bag for herself.

Not long after receiving her FSK, Kristin found her way to the web site printed on the “slinky” –thefingerprint.com. A couple of clicks later, she found her way to the Four Spiritual Laws. Two times through that, Kristin decided to invite Christ into her life. So before God and her computer screen, Kristin entered into the family of God.

But that isn’t the end of the story. Two years later, Kristin went to East Asia on an international summer project and was a part of several students receiving Christ. Those students began sharing with other students. We no longer send summer projects to that city. It’s been turned over to national staff and students on fire for Christ. Someday we will get to heaven and find many men and women with us there…in part, because of one girl, one web site, and one “slinky.”

Sunshine & Students
Please start praying for an upcoming opportunity Heather and I have. We will be spending part of May and all of June helping to direct the North Myrtle Beach summer project. I will oversee operations, while Heather willhelp organize special events and disciple several women. Summer projects are like spiritual greenhouses for the students who come. It’s an excellent way for them to be built up and trained in their faith. Many students come out of projects commited to a lifestyle of sharing thier faith with others.
