Most of us think of sandy beaches and blue oceans when we think of the Caribbean. Although many countries in this region have a large percentage that claim to be Christians they face many challenges. Voodooism, violence, materialism, unstable government and struggles with drug trafficking are just a few challenges that face believers here. We are excited to hear that for the first time a conference is being made available to students of this region. Students will have a chance to attend workshops, meet together for praise and worship and hear great speakers. When we were students we attended many such conferences and they were always an encouragement to our faith, and a motivator and equipper to press forward in telling people about Christ. Heather has been helping with putting together a logo and program for the conference taking place at the end of the month. Pray that God would use it greatly in the lives of those who attend!
The arrival of summer means the arrival of student interns for us. Students arrive June 5 and will be working in the different departments at headquarters for this summer as well as taking part in outreaches, Bible studies and training. Pray that God would use this summer to show many where he might have them in the future. (Heather took part in the project 10 years ago, which led her down here once she graduated.) Pray for others and me in the office as we interact with these students and help give them direction.
The last few months I’ve been able to meet weekly with a new staff guy here named Josh. We’ve been building our friendship as we’ve started playing racquetball, and we share an interest in motorcycles. He’s going through materials to receive further spiritual training as a new staff member and I’ve been coaching him. I enjoy seeing what he’s learning, reviewing things myself and building into someone else’s life.
We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of baby boy Nagy in early August. (No, we have not settled on a name yet.) Please pray for a healthy last trimester for Heather. She’s been sleeping on the couch (she’s more comfortable there). It’s regularly in the 90s down here, which makes her want to avoid being outside too much. We have also officially kicked off hurricane season, and are hoping that no hurricanes hit here—especially around the due date. Mikayla is picking up new words almost daily, and we understand some of them. She has now gone two weeks without a pacifier, but we have noticed she is less easily soothed. You can pray for patience and wisdom as we love our daughter who has discovered what a tantrum is!
