My job this past month has been fi lled with tasks you might not normally think of when
you hear “missionary.” I did research and made arrangements for renting a bus, coordinated
callbacks and scheduling of actors and extras, took photos to show lighting conditions
and angles...all of this was for the three
videos we created for Big Break—Crusade’s
spring break evangelism conference. The videos
take a humorous look at aspects of students’
experiences at Big Break, as well as getting there.
Coordinating three shoots at three different
locations was a challenge, but God’s hand in our

About to mark a take with the slate during our “Bus” shoot
work was evident as things went along smoothly,
despite needing to reschedule one shoot due to
too much wind at the beach. We were glad that
most of our 15 paid actors were able to work
with us on the new date. We also had 25 Campus Crusade staff help us for another
video we did at night. It made for a few long days for Heather being alone with the kids, but it was a great learning experience. Usually, videos we’ve produced have been delivered
to staff on DVDs. We’re excited that these will not only be given to staff but also
passed along through web sites like Facebook and Youtube, making exposure to them
jump greatly! We’ll let you know when they’ll be available for viewing via the internet.
We have grass in our front yard again! We had professionals take out the old grass (well,
mostly weeds) and fix our sprinkler system, and then Heather and I laid about two tons
of sod. We were a bit sore afterward but it felt great to have the job done! The weather
has become more moderate here (fall here is like spring up north in one way—it’s now
the time to get outside after staying indoors a lot due to the weather). We enjoyed
taking our fi rst of hopefully many family bike rides, kids in tow in a bike trailer and
it felt great to be outside. Mikayla cracks us up with some of the things she says. The
other day we were driving and I was singing a song, and clapping and she told me to
stop singing and concentrate on driving. Elijah runs up to us and gives us big hugs when
he sees us. He has also been whining a bit more—we’re hoping that’s just due to some
new teeth coming in. We celebrate Mikayla’s third birthday this weekend (although the
date is really the 22nd), and she knows that soon after we can put up the Christmas
tree. The key will be keeping the kids from removing the ornaments. We’re also looking
forward to getting together with some friends here for Thanksgiving, and visiting family
and friends in Buffalo and Jackson at Christmastime.
