Two Hurricanes in Three Weeks

Florida was hit by Hurricane Charlie August 13 and then Hurricane Francis on September 5. We heard the warnings about Charlie and at first didn’t think much about it as we are inland and normally Orlando only gets some rain showers. This time, Orlando got hit with 100 mile-per-hour winds! We were definitely blessed as we have only cosmetic damage to our home. It is overwhelming to drive around and see toppled trees, fences, billboards and know that this is not just localized but very widespread.

The storm has shown us how much we long to control life, and yet really it’s not in our control but in God’s. We want to be able to say as Job did, “the Lord gives, and the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord.” Please pray for the relief and clean-up efforts that are taking place in Florida. Please also pray that we would be able to praise the Lord during this time, and for protection from any further storms that are brewing in the Atlantic!

A Life is Changed

We want to share a story we heard about Matt. He was living in North Myrtle Beach for the summer, probably hoping to just make some money and have a good time. Students from our summer project shared with Matt one night and he realized his need to accept Christ into his heart. That really was just the beginning of his story, as over the next several weeks he took part in Bible studies, socials and outreaches with the summer project students. He is now looking to plug into a local Campus Crusade movement when he returns to college. Matt is a wonderful example of what we pray to see happen on summer projects and on campus—to see lost students become Christ-centered laborers.

This past week, thousands of freshmen converged on college campuses all across the country. These students will face many choices about what they believe and how they will live now that they are on their own. Freshmen Survival Kits (which have a book on apologetics, video, CD, toy and Bible) will be passed out on many campuses. Please pray that God would use these kits (and the website www.waymore.org) to draw students to himself!

Baby Update

Overall, Heather has been feeling well, although she has had some back pain and heartburn that are related to the pregnancy. My space on the bed continues to get smaller as pillows are added for support to her back and other areas. Please keep praying for a healthy pregnancy and delivery. You can also be praying for our support. We have seen some attrition this last year and have a larger need to cover the healthcare and other costs of a new baby. We are praying that God would help us raise $1,800 in new monthly support through current and new partners.

Thank you for your prayers and partnership!
